MLK is an academic magnet school in the Metropolitan Public School System. It has an emphasis on Health Sciences and Engineering. The school consists of 1100 students and 50 full time faculty members and is located in downtown Nashville. Students are accepted to the school based upon their academic testing performance. They come from all parts of Metro Nashville/Davidson County.

The band program is recognized as one of the finest in the state and we are gaining ground in the Southeast. We have 300 students actively involved in the program in one of seven bands. Our groups consistently receive superior ratings at concert festival and we have one of the highest numbers of students selected by audition each year to participate in our all region bands. There is a lot of excitement occurring at MLK. We have added a new director to our staff and we are anxiously awaiting renovations that will double our rehearsal space!
